Shortly after the formation of the Hose Company, a group of men led by H. R. Carpenter and C. R. Brewster formed the Friendship Hook and Ladder Company, which was incorporated February 22, 1892. The name was taken from the small hand drawn hook and ladder wagon purchased for $100 from a Long Island Fire Company. Hook and Ladder Company Number 1 was located at Brewster and Euclid Avenues, where the company's quarters are still located.
