GLASS
What is Glass? All bottles and jars, clear, brown or green, used for packaging foods or beverages and commonly known as glass. Mirrors, light bulbs and auto glass ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. |
How to save: DO NOT BREAK. No plastic bags of any kind. Remove caps, lids and wash out all residue from food containers. Commingle with aluminum, tin and plastic in one container. DO NOT BREAK |
ALUMINUM
What is Aluminum? All Aluminum beverage cans and pet food cans. Pie dishes, trays and aluminum foil are now acceptable. |
How to save: DO NOT CRUSH. All cans must be rinsed. Commingle with glass, tin and plastic in one container. No plastic bags of any kind. |
TIN & AEROSOL CANS
| What are Tin and Aerosol Cans? A steel can with a tin lining that contained food products, juices and jellies. An aerosol can is a sealed airtight container which dispenses a product in a controlled direction. |
How to save: DO NOT CRUSH Wash out all food residue. Aerosol cans should be empty. Commingle with glass, plastic and aluminum in one container. DO NOT CRUSH. |
PLASTIC CONTAINERS
| What is a Plastic Container? A plastic bottle or jug that contained milk, apple cider, soda, spring water, bleach, liquor or laundry detergents. Any Plastic container with a 1, #2 or #5 stamped on it. |
| How to save: DO NOT CRUSH. Rinse out container. Commingle with glass, aluminum and tin in one container. DO NOT CRUSH. No plastic bags will be accepted. |
ALL ITEMS ABOVE CAN BE CO-MINGLED IN YOUR RECYCLING CONTAINER No plastic bags of any kind. |
NEWSPAPERS
| What is a Newspaper? All newsprint used to convey or report news. Window envelopes, plastic coated envelopes, brown paper and tissue ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. |
| How to save: Tie with twine or place in recycling container, such as a milk crate. Place at curbside on scheduled collection day. Check your recycling calendar. No plastic bags of any kind. |
CORRUGATED CARDBOARD
| What is Corrugated? Heavy cardboard made up of two outside layers of heavy paper with corrugation in between. Brown grocery bags are acceptable. You can also include cereal, soap and packaged food boxes like pasta,rice, potatoes as well as gift boxes. Remove plastic lining. No pizza boxes or cardboard with food contamination. |
| How to save: Flatten and tie in bundles no heavier than 30 pounds. Place at curb next to commingled items on collection day. |
MAGAZINES AND MIXED PAPER
| What are magazines and mixed paper? Magazines, newspapers & mixed paper do not need to be separated. Any publication with a paper back that contains stories and articles. All types of paper such as catalogs, junk mail, telephone books, computer paper and high grade paper. Remove plastic wrappings. Hard covered books must have the covers removed. |
| How to save: Tie with twine or place in recycling container on your collection day. |
WHITE GOODS AND SCRAP METAL
| What are white goods and scrap? Large appliances such as freezers, refrigerators, dryers, washing machines, dishwashers, stoves, hot water heaters and air conditioners. Any large item made of metal or cast iron. |
| How to Recycle: For safety, remove all doors and lay tall items on their sides to prevent tipping. CALL DPW at 440-4860 to give your address and place at curb Tuesday night for Wednesday collection. Failure to call will result in the item remaining at the curb and you may be subject to a fine. |
TIRES
| What are tires? Any used tire off your car, motorcycle, small truck or trailer. NO large truck tires are accepted. |
| How to save: CALL DPW at 440-4860 to give your address and place at curb Tuesday night for Wednesday collection. Failure to call will result in the item remaining at the curb and you may be subject to a fine. |
COMPUTERS & ELECTRONICS
| What are Computers? Computer Processing Units (CPUs), Monitors, laptop computers, hard drives, keyboards, modems. What are Electronics? Fax machines, speakers, stereo equipment, television sets, vcr’s dvd players. |
| How to Recycle: Bring to recycling center at 24 Industrial Ave., from 9:00AM to 12:00 Noon - Monday through Saturday. YARD WASTE
| What is yard waste? Yard waste consists of your grass clippings, bushes, hedges, branches or logs that come from the upkeep of your yard. |
| How to prepare: Place at curbside on your scheduled day. Grass must be in a rigid plastic or galvanized container or in bio-degradable paper bags. NO PLASTIC BAGS Bushes, hedges and branches must be tied in 4 foot bundles. |
LEAVES
What are leaves? Those materials naturally formed from trees and bushes that are suitable for composting |
How to Recycle: During October, November and December, you can rake your leaves into the street in front of your house or apartment for collection on your street cleaning day. You may also place leaves at the curb in bio-degradable paper bags. No plastic bags will be accepted. |
USED MOTOR OIL AND FILTERS
| What is motor oil and filters? The motor oil and filter from your motor vehicle. |
| How to save: Bring to recycling center at the DPW garage 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Monday through Friday. Do not mix with antifreeze. |
COOKING OIL
What is Cooking oil? Any Oil Used in your kitchen to prepare food |
How to save: Bring to recycling center at 24 Industrial Avenue - 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon - Monday through Saturday. Proof of residency required. No plastic bags of any kind. |
CAR AND HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES
| What batteries are accepted? Any battery from your car, truck, boat or motorcycle. Any household battery such as AA, AAA, C, D and 9 volt. |
| How to save: Bring to recycling center at 24 Industrial Avenue - 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Monday through Saturday. |
PROPANE TANKS
What is a propane tank? A 20 lb tank holding propane to cook with on your outside barbecue. ONLY 20 lb tanks are accepted. |

TEXTILES
| What are textiles? Acceptable textiles are all types of clothing and household textile articles such as pants, dresses, hats, drapes, curtains, belts, towels, sheets, shoes and handbags. |

CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION
| What is C & D? Any wood, plaster, sheetrock, asphalt, shingles or concrete from any small renovation job from your residential property with NO CONTRACTOR INVOLVED. Large renovation jobs must be recycled privately. |
