Monthly Programs


August 2010

  • Book Bingo Jr.—Mon., 8/2, 8/9, 8/16, 8/23, 10:00-11:00 a.m. This session is for non-readers who will need assistance from a parent or caregiver. We will use individual letters or numbers to play and help them learn while having fun.
  • Book Bingo—Mon., 8/2, 8/9, 8/16, 8/23, 9/13, 9/20, 9/27, 2:00-3:00 p.m. Children of all ages play for small prizes. Younger children may need assistance from a parent or caregiver.
  • Game Time—Tues., 8/3, 8/10, 8/17, 8/24, 2:00-4:00 p.m. Drop in, cool off and have some fun playing life size Scrabble, team trivia games, Apples to Apples and more.
  • Talk It Up!—Tues., 8/3, 8/10, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Book club for teens entering grades 7 & 8. Games and snacks are on the agenda; see Mrs. Greenberg for a copy of each week’s book.
  • Speak Out!—Tues., 8/3, 8/10, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Book club for teens entering grades 9-12. Games and snacks are on the agenda; see Mrs. Greenberg for a copy of each week’s book.
  • Sleepy Time Tales Alfresco—Tues, 8/3, 8/10, 8/17, 8/31, 7:00-7:30 p.m. Children visit the library for stories and a snack. Feel free to wear your pajamas and bring a lovey and a blanket. Wear insect repellent as program will be on the Euclid Ave. lawn weather permitting.
  • Basic Internet Instruction—Wed., 8/4, 8/11, 8/18, 8/25, 10-11 a.m. For those adults who want to learn to use a mouse, set up an email account, and perform basic Internet searches. Pre-registration and RP residency required.
  • Make A Splash! Craft Time Jr.—Wed., 8/4, 8/11, 8/18, 10:00-11:00 a.m. This program is appropriate for younger children and a parent or caregiver.
  • Make A Splash! Craft Time—Wed., 8/4, 8/11, 8/18, 2:00-3:00 p.m. This program is for older children who do not need assistance with crafts.
  • Wii Wednesday—Wed., 8/4, 8/11, 8/18, 4-5:30 p.m. Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to stop in for games and snacks on the library’s Wii.
  • Movies for Children—Thurs., 8/5, 8/12, 8/19, 8/26, 12:00 noon – 1:30 p.m. These movies are rated G or PG. The same movie will be showing in the evening if you can’t make the day movie. You may bring a snack if you like. Children under 7 must be accompanied by parent or caregiver.

  • Family Movies—Thurs. 8/5, 8/12, 8/19, 8/26, 7:00- 8:30 p.m. The same movie will be shown in the daytime if you can’t make the evening one. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a family member who is over 18 years of age. You may bring a snack if you like. See entry above for films being shown.
  • Baby & Me—Thurs., 8/5, 8/12, 8/19, 8/26, 11:00-11:30 a.m. Pre-registered parents, grandparents and caregivers are welcome to bring their newborns to 2 year olds for stories, finger plays and songs. Register anytime throughout the year.
  • Get It Done /and Have Fun!—Fri., 3:00-4:00 p.m. Join us for a book discussion group featuring your mandatory Ridgefield Park elementary school summer reading list book. After talking about the book you can complete your assignment and then celebrate with a little party featuring snacks and games. Pick up your copy the Friday before the meeting date. Valid library card required.

  • Movies for the over 18 crowd—Thurs., 8/12, 8/26, 2:00 pm Come and enjoy a movie and some popcorn.

  • Magic and Mind reading—Tues., 8/17, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to an exciting program with professional magician Francis Menotti. Pre-registration is required for this program which is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
  • Sleepy time Specials—Tues., 8/18, 7:00-7:30 p.m. (Bugs), bring your own insect repellant.
  • Adult Book Group—Fri., 8/20, 10-11 a.m., or Mon., 8/30, 7:30-8:30 p.m. “Empire Falls” by Richard Russo will be discussed; stop in for your copy of the book.
  • One Book New Jersey- Fri., 8/20, 3:00-4:00 p.m. “The Tale of Despereaux” Interested children in grades 3-6 may pick up a copy of the book, read it and join with others to discuss the book, play games and have snacks. Registration required.
  • Summer Reading Program Finale-Tues., 8/24, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Join us to celebrate all your hard work this summer with Brian Richards Magic and Comedy program which is being sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Registration required.

The Library will be closed on Sat., 9/4 and Mon., 9/6 in celebration of Labor Day.

  • Movies for Children—Thurs., Sat., 9/11, 12:00 noon-1:30 p.m. These movies are rated G or PG. The same movie will be showing in the evening if you can’t make the day movie. You may bring a snack if you like. Children under 7 must be accompanied by parent or caregiver. Films to be announced.
  • Story time Registration-9/13-9/18, Register your child, (ages 2-1st grade) for the fall story time session this week in the children’s department. Story time is for Village residents only.
  • Book Bingo—Mon., 9/13, 9/20, 9/27, 2:00-3:00 p.m. Children of all ages play for small prizes. Younger children may need assistance from a parent or caregiver.
  • Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting—Tues., 9/14, 7:00 p.m. Consider joining the Friends—a great way to support your library and widen your social circle. Refreshments will be served.
  • Adult Book Group—Fri., 9/17, 10:00-11:00 a.m., or Mon., 9/27, 7:30-8:30 p.m. “Homer & Langley” by E.L. Doctorow will be discussed; stop in for your copy of the book.
  • Tea with Friends—Sun., 9/19, 2:00-4:00 p.m. A full menu of sweets and savories and an assortment of teas will be served. Advance tickets only ($15.00/ea) may be purchased at the library. Event sells out every year so buy your tickets in advance. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
  • Pre-school Story time—Wed., 9/22, 9/29, Pre-registered RP 2-3 year olds meet from 10:30-11:15 a.m. and 4-5 year olds meet from 1:30-2:15p.m.
  • Library Trustee Meeting—Wed., 9/22, 8:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
