January 2012

The Library will be closed on Mon., 1/2 for New Years and on Mon., 1/16 for Martin Luther King’s Birthday
  • Sleepy Time Tales—Tues., 1/3, 1/10, 1/17, 1/24, 1/31 7:00-7:30 p.m. Children visit the library for stories and a snack. Feel free to wear your pajamas and bring a lovey.
  • Adult Internet Instruction—Wed., 1/4, 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 10:00-11:00 a.m. Basic Class for those who want to learn to use a mouse, do simple Internet searches, and set up an e-mail account. Seating is limited and registration is required; out-of-towners are welcome, but preference is given to Ridgefield Park residents.
  • Baby & Me—Thurs., 1/5, 1/12, 1/19, 1/26, 11:00-11:30 a.m. Pre-registered parents, grandparents and caregivers are welcome to bring their newborns to 2 year olds for stories, finger plays and songs.
  • Movies for the over 18 Crowd—Thurs., 1/5, 1/19, 2:00 p.m. stop by the library or call to see what films will be playing. Come and enjoy a movie with some popcorn.
  • Yu-Gi-Oh Tournament—Mon., 1/9, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to bring their cards and play. Snacks will be provided, and a small prize will be given to the player with the most wins.
  • Wii Tuesdays—Tues., 1/10, 1/24, 3:30-5:00 p.m. Teens in grades 7-12 are welcome to join us for snacks and games on the Wii.
  • Pre-school Story time—Wed., 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, Pre-registered RP 2-3 year olds meet from 10:30-11:15 a.m. and 4-5 year olds meet from 1:30-2:15p.m.
  • After School Story & Craft—Wed., 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 3:45-4:30 p.m. For pre-registered children in kindergarten and 1st grade.
  • TGIF Jr.—Fri., 1/13, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Book club for pre-registered children in grades 2-3. “Ready Freddy! Homework Hassles” by Abby Klein will be discussed. Games and snacks are on us.
  • Children’s Movies—Sat., 1/14, 12:00 Stop by the library or call to see what film will be playing. You may bring your lunch or a snack if you like. Children 7 and under must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
  • Children’s Movies—Sat., 10/8, 12 noon. Children 7 and under must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Bring a snack. “The Dog Who Saved Halloween” will be shown.
  • Book Buddies—Fri., 1/20, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Book club for pre-registered children in grade 4. Games and snacks are on us. “Dragon in the Sock Drawer” by Kate Klimo will be discussed.
  • Adult Book Club—Fri., 1/20, OR Mon., 1/30, Friday meetings are at 10:00 a.m.; Monday meetings are at 7:30 p.m. “The Tea Rose” by Jennifer Donnelly will be discussed. Pick up your copy of the book at the circulation desk; it’s a great way to meet your neighbors!
  • Celebrate Chinese New Year—Sat., 1/21, 1:00-2:00 p.m. Register at the desk for this fun, informative program. Learn something new, create a Chinese craft and enjoy some light refreshments.
  • Teen Book Club—Mon., 1/23, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Teens in grades 7-12 will discuss “Scat” by Carl Hiaasen. Snacks and drinks are on us. Pick up your copy of the book at the front desk.
  • Library Board of Trustees—Wed., 1/25, 8:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
  • Tween Time—Fri., 1/27, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Book club for pre-registered children in grades 5-6. Games and snacks are on us. “Moon over Manifest” by Clare Vanderpool will be discussed.
  • Final Evening at Hogwarts—Tues., 1/31, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Children in grades 4-6 are invited to the final night at Hogwarts. Registration is limited and only those possessing an acceptance letter will be admitted and sorted. Quidditch, crafts and special snacks will round out the night.
February 2012

  • Adult Internet Instruction—Wed., 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 10:00-11:00 a.m Basic Class for those who want to learn to use a mouse, do simple Internet searches, and set up an e-mail account. Seating is limited and registration is required; out-of-towners are welcome, but preference is given to Ridgefield Park residents.
  • Pre-school Story time—Wed., 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 2/29, Pre-registered RP 2-3 year olds meet from 10:30-11:15 a.m. and 4-5 year olds meet from 1:30-2:15p.m.
  • After School Story & Craft—Wed., 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 2/29, 3:45-4:30 p.m. For pre-registered children in kindergarten and 1st grade.
  • ESL Testing/Assessment—Wed. & Thurs 2/1 & 2/2, 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Ridgefield Park Junior-Senior High School. Prospective students for free ESL classes must attend both sessions in order to be qualify for classes which are held at the RP Library and the RP Junior-Senior High School. Classes are taught by teachers from Bergen Community College’s Ciarco Center. Dates are tentative so check at the library before attending. Classes begin 3/1.

  • Teen Book Club—Mon., 2/13, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Teens in grades 7-12 will discuss the “Half Brother” by Kenneth Oppel. Snacks and drinks are on us. Pick up your copy of the book at the front desk.
  • Tween Time—Fri., 2/17, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Book club for pre-registered children in grades 5-6. Games and snacks are on us. “The Dragonfly Pool” by Eva Ibbotson will be discussed
  • Library Board of Trustees—Wed., 2/22, 3/28, 8:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
  • Adult Book Club—Fri., 2/24, OR Mon., 2/27, Friday meetings are at 10:00 a.m.; Monday meetings are at 7:30 p.m. “Illumination Night” by Alice Hoffman will be discussed. Pick up your copy of the book at the circulation desk; it’s a great way to meet your neighbors!
  • Healing Hearts—Tues., 2/28, 3:30-5:00 p.m. Tweens in grades 5-9 are invited to paint and decorate wooden hearts that will be given to people suffering from cancer. Fifth and 6th graders sign up in the Children’s Department; 7th through 9th graders sign up at the Adult Circulation Desk.
  • Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Cake Contest—Wed., 2/28, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Register your family and enter the contest for the most Seussian “cake”, (and we use this term loosely,) and maybe you will be the winner. Even if you don’t win we guarantee you won’t go home hungry. There will also be a reading for the little ones of a classic Dr. Seuss book.
  • Internet Help for Job Seekers—Wed., 2/29, 10:00-11:00 a.m. This workshop introduces participants to various sites on the Internet that will help with all aspects of the job search. Space is limited; please sign up at the Circulation Desk.
March 2012

  • Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day—Sat., 3/17, 1:00-2:00 p.m. Register for this program and create a holiday decoration, hear an old Irish tale and taste some Irish soda bread while listening to Celtic music.
  • Teen Book Club—Mon., 3/19, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Teens in grades 7-12 will discuss “Bucking the Sarge” by Christopher Curtis. Snacks and drinks are on us. Pick up your copy of the book at the front desk.
  • Adult Book Club—Fri., 3/23, OR Mon., 3/26; Friday meetings are at 10:00 a.m.; Monday meetings are at 7:30 p.m. “Blessings” by Anna Quindlen will be discussed. Pick up your copy of the book at the circulation desk; it’s a great way to meet your neighbors!
  • Tween Time—Fri., 3/23, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Book club for pre-registered children in grades 5-6. Games and snacks are on us. “The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls” by Elise Primavera.
  • Marble Magnets—Tues., 3/27, 3:30-5:00 p.m. Teens in grades 7-12 are welcome to create decorative magnets for their lockers and refrigerators. All you need to bring is your imagination! Sign up at the front desk.
  • Library Board of Trustees—Wed., 3/28, 8:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
