Ridgefield Park Police Department Updates
On Monday, March 31, 2008, Sergeant Phil McEntee, a 30 year veteran of the police
department and a well-known face about the village, retired. Sgt McEntee graduated
Ridgefield Park High School in 1969 and Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1973. While
working at the Bergen Record, Sgt. McEntee volunteered his time as a member of the
Ridgefield Park Special Police. Phil was sworn in as a full time police officer on March
30th, 1978. In 1990 Officer McEntee became the Crime Prevention Officer for the
Department, organizing many programs still in effect today. In May of 1997, Phil was
temporarily assigned to handle the duties of the Department’s Traffic Bureau, and a year
later was permanently assigned to run the Bureau leading to his promotion to Sergeant in
1999. Besides his specialized training through his participation in many advanced traffic
and accident investigation courses, Sgt. McEntee was actively involved in the Bergen
County Traffic Officer’s Association. For his efforts in traffic safety, Sgt. McEntee
received special recognition in 2000 by the then Bergen County Executive William
Schuber. Sgt. McEntee served as Vice President of the Association and assisted in the
editing of the revised New Jersey Drivers Manual. In 2003, the Bergen County Traffic
Officers Association awarded Sgt. Phil McEntee the Jack Spengel Award for
Outstanding Achievement and Dedication in the Field of Police Traffic Safety, the
Associations highest honor. We wish Phil as long, happy and healthy retirement!!!
The Ridgefield Park Police Department would like to announce the reassignment of Sgt.
James Maglione from the Patrol Division to the head of the Traffic Bureau. Sgt.
Maglione replaces Sgt. Phil McEntee and joins Utility Officer Rick Lutz. For the past few
months, Sgt. Maglione has been attending various traffic and crash investigation related
classes to prepare him better for this new assignment. We wish Sgt. Maglione good luck
in his new endeavors.
We are also pleased to announce the hiring of three new police officers. On January 22,
2008, Darcy Rellinger, Robert DiStasi and Harry Marquez were sworn in as new
members of the Ridgefield Park Police Department. All three are currently attending the
Basic Police Training course at the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Academy in
Mahwah, N.J. with a graduation date in June. After completion of the Academy, the three
officers will be assigned to a Field Training Officer for another 8-10 weeks of training
before being allowed to work on their own.
Emergency Notification System is now in place.
