Board of Recreation
Sports programs for children include
seasonal basketball, softball and bowling.


As per the By-Laws, the purpose of the Board of Recreation is to develop and promote the adoption of healthy recreational activities for all citizens of the Village of Ridgefield Park regardless of age, sex, color, creed and national origin.

All Board of Recreation meetings are open to the public. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building on the third floor in the Community Room, 306. Anyone with any questions, comments or suggestions is more than welcome to attend any meeting. Anyone needing to speak to the Board of Recreation may call (201) 641-4950 ext. 610 and leave a message on the voice mail. If you wish to send a letter, please address it to the Board of Recreation at 234 Main Street, Ridgefield Park.

Just a reminder to everyone, the Board of Recreation is made up entirely of volunteers who generously give their time to run various programs and activities for the residents of the Village. It operates on a small budget provided by the Village and assists hundreds of residents in various activities. Please remember volunteers run these programs and they will get back to you as soon as possible. The Board of Recreation is always welcome to hear your comments.

Any registration forms for the Board of Recreation activities can be found at the Clerk's Office, the Public Library or downloaded from the website. All registration forms are also distributed in the schools. Registration forms can be sent to the Board of Recreation c/o Village Clerk's office at 234 Main Street, Ridgefield Park. All checks should be made payable to: RP Board of Recreation. No cash will be accepted at the Clerk's Office.

Also, to clear up eligibility for Board of Recreation programs, all children's programs are open to all residents of Ridgefield Park and all students that either live in Ridgefield Park or attend school in Ridgefield Park.


ACTIVITIES


The March meeting of the Board of Recreation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. From 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., Easter Egg Hunt Posters may be dropped off in the Community Resource Room located on the third floor.

All registration forms for Board of Recreation activities are distributed in the schools and can be found at our website.

2008 Easter Egg Hunt on March 22, at 10:00 AM at Veterans Park.

Easter Egg Hunt - draws hundreds of children in search of hidden eggs and provides them with an opportunity to win prizes and to meet the Easter Bunny! Held on the Saturday before Easter Sunday at 10:00 AM in Veteran's Park (rain or shine). Don't forget to bring your own basket.

Easter Egg Poster Contest - To promote the Easter Egg Hunt, a poster contest is held for students in pre-k -- 6th grade. The contest is open to Ridgefield Park students, grades e Pre-K through 6th. Posters must be no larger than 10" by 13" (or they cannot be accepted) and must include the date, time, and location of the Easter Egg Hunt, as listed above. All posters must be dropped off at the Community Meeting Room located on the third floor of the Municipal Building on the third Thursday in March between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED!!! Please be sure to put your name, school, grade and phone number on the back!

2007 Summer Recreation Program July - August: Any questions on this program can be left on the Board of Recreation and will be directed to Mr. Bob Morris, who runs the program for the Village. This program is not run by the Board of Recreation. You may leave a message for him at (201) 641-4950 ext. 610. The program is for school aged children and is held at the following sites: Registration is required. The form can be downloaded here. All information and fees are listed on the form.

Rag-A-Muffin Parade - The parade is held the Saturday before Halloween and begins at 11:00 AM SHARP! Entrants should be at Euclid Avenue & Hobart Street no later than 10:30 A.M. sharp for registration!!! Rain date is 2:00 p.m. on the following Sunday. Participants can either reside in Ridgefield Park or enter in the out-of town division.

Christmas Tree Lighting - The annual Christmas tree lighting is held on the first Sunday of December at 5:30 PM in front of the municipal building. Village residents, both young and old, gather to sing carols with the help of our Village Scouts and high school chorus, while waiting for that most exciting moment when Santa Claus makes a special appearance to see the lighted tree. Each year at the Tree Lighting all school age children up to grade 6 are presented with a special ballot and one lucky child wins a bicycle sponsored by one of our Village businesses!

Wish Tree - The wish tree is located at TD Banknorth through which residents are afforded an opportunity to purchase a holiday gift for a less fortunate Village child.

Holiday Display Contest - Is held on the last Friday before Christmas at which time out-of-town judges canvass the Village and award prizes to the best-decorated homes and businesses. Winners will be posted on website after the contest and prizes distributed at the January Commissioner's meeting. Registration is required to participate in this contest.

Summer Recreation Program - Any questions on this program should be left on the Board of Recreation voicemail for Mr. Bob Morris. The program is for school aged children and is held at the following sites: Veteran's Park, Chestnut Park, Brewster Park, Second St. Park, H.S. Gym & Fieldhouse. The program is run by the Village, not the Board of Recreation. ACTIVITIES: 9 AM - 1PM Playground games, Arts-Crafts, Project of the Day, Team Games, Special Events NIGHT PROGRAM: Teens & Adults- H.S. Gym/Fieldhouse 6PM - 9PM Basketball, Volleyball, Weightlifting & Jogging. Proof of Residence required.

Women's Softball Program - Registration packets are available in January and must be completed and returned by February 1 in order for teams to participate in the league. Contact the Board of Recreation at (201) 641-4950 ext. 610 and leave your contact information if you need a registration packet. Only completed packets will be accepted.

Softball Program - The softball program is open to Ridgefield Park girls or students in grades 3-8. Registration fee is $35.00 and registration is generally held in January or February. Practices are usually held at Chestnut Street Park or Veteran's Park. This is a traveling league that will be run according to high school rules (fast pitch, bunting, leading, stealing). The season runs from the end of April through early June. A picnic is held in June for all participants. The program is available for RP residents/students or those attending school in RP.

T-Ball Program - The T-ball program is open to Ridgefield Park residents or students from grades 1 through 2. Emphasis is on skills. Registration is held in January or February and the fee is $25.00. The clinic is held on Saturday mornings at the Hobart Street field from 8:00 AM - 10:00 A.M. The season runs from the end of April through early June. A picnic is held in June for all participants. An adult must remain at the field while the child is playing. The program is available for RP residents/students or those attending school in RP.

Bowling - The Board of Recreation sponsors a bowling program for all children between the ages of 4 and 14. The program is conducted at Bowler City Lanes in Hackensack. If there are any questions regarding this program, please call Marilyn at Bowler City (201) 343-3545.

Special Stars Youth Bowling League for Challenged Children - This program is run by Bowler City for challenged children ages 5 - 21. For information call Marilyn at Bowler City (201) 343-3545. The program is available for RP residents/students or those attending school in RP.

Wrestling - The wrestling program is open to students in grades 1-8. Registration is usually held in November. Registration fee is $25.00.

Basketball - The basketball program is open to Ridgefield Park students or those attending school in Ridgefield Park grades 2 - 8. The second grade clinic is held on Saturday mornings at 8:00 AM. Grades 3 - 8 play games on the weekends and practice one night per week during the season. Early bird registration is held until August 15 and regular registration is held in September at Roosevelt School. Registration fee is $30 for early bird registration and $35 for all registrations received after August 15. A $5.00 late fee will be added to any registration submitted after September 30. The program is available for RP residents/students or those attending school in RP. No cash will be accepted at the Clerk's Office, only checks.

Early (and late) registrations should be sent to: Board of Recreation, 234 Main Street, Ridgefield Park. All registration forms must be submitted by 10/25 to guarantee a spot on a team. Any registrations submitted at the evaluations will be put on a waiting list only. Checks should be made payable to: RP BOARD OF RECREATION.

Evaluations are held in November. The season runs from December through March.

This is a recreational and instructional league. The basketball program is always looking for those willing to give their time to help run the league smoothly. All it takes is one hour of practice per week and one game. Training sessions are run for coaches and/or referees. Assistance is provided to anyone willing to give his/her time to coach. You do not have to be a professional at the game to coach, only willing to donate your time for your own child. The Board of Recreation arranges to have a certification class for coaches.

Adult Trips/Activities - The Board of Recreation has added this new activity to its roster. If you have any suggestions for any trips, speakers or activities you would like to see sponsored by the Board of Recreation, please drop us a note at the Clerk's Office or leave a message on our voice mail at (201) 641-4950 ext. 610. Check the website periodically for discount tickets to area events.

Senior Citizens Christmas Party - Tickets for the senior citizens holiday party are available at the Clerk's Office in December. For further information, stop at the Civic Center.

Tennis - The Board of Recreation sponsors a tennis program run by Barry Rubach (201) 568-3946. Registration forms are distributed in the schools. For further information, contact Barry Rubach at the above number. The program is available for RP residents/students or those attending school in RP.
